**Disclaimer: What follows may offend you. It may also be the kick in the bum you need to push through your excuses!!! I hope it is the latter of the two!***
If there is one thing I have learned on my weight loss journey and as a coach, it is that this is TRUE. EVERYONE comes up with excuses. I don't have time. I don't have money. I don't have the motivation. I will never stick with it. I've tried other shakes, they don't work. I hurt my knee in the 4th grade and I'm still very protective of it so I can't exercise.
I've made some of these very same excuses myself! In all areas of my life! I am currently balancing orientation to brand new job as an RN in an Intensive Care Unit, getting my Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification, taking an online critical care class, working with challengers and new coaches 4-5 hours a night, keeping a clean house, and remembering how to be a good wife. I know that that list might seem short to some of your super-humans out there, but most days I am going from sun up until 11 at night and I can tell you this.. it can be EXHAUSTING.
Why did I just tell you all that? Because I want you to realize that I, too, have every reason in the world to make excuses. I don't have time. I didn't have the money. I never stuck with anything like this before. Newsflash: IT IS POSSIBLE TO LET THOSE EXCUSES GO!!!
*Before I climb up on my soap box, I will say that there is an exception to everything. For instance, if you truly do not have the money, this does not apply to you!*
1. I don't have the time.
....YES YOU DO. Did you watch 30 minutes of TV today? Find time for a nap? Did you scroll through Facebook and try to beat a level or two of Candy Crush? May I remind you that if you did any of these things, you likely HAVE the time. But I will also say this. If it is important, you will MAKE the time.
2. I don't have the money.
....I know this is a sensitive topic. I get that. It was and still would be for me. However, we all choose how we spend our funds. The same people that come to me in tears and confess that they hate the skin they live in are occasionally the ones that post 47 pictures of themselves and friends out at the bar three nights a week. Now, I am not much of a bar goer anymore but I know that when I was, $30-$50 per night was what I expected to spend. That means if you are going out three times a week, you could've paid for a month of the healthiest meal you can get your hands on!
....secondly, it blows my mind that people strongly consider plastic surgery over a $130/month investment in their HEALTH and BODY - inside and out. I am absolutely positive that going under the needle and knife is a less practical expense
3. I don't have the motivation.
....you just told me one of two things: "I'm lazy" OR "I'm scared." It's usually the latter. When it comes down to it, health is terrifying. Especially when you feel like being healthy is out of your reach. If you have a television, you likely understand that being overweight and unhealthy has a negative impact on the life you live and the lives of those closest to you. On some level, you are scared to admit that you have a problem. Or scared to admit that deep, dark fear you have of not being around to see your grandkids grow up. And I'm not saying that isn't scary. But instead of letting it turn you inward and scare you from even trying, let it be the FUEL that FIRES your health journey!!! Proclaim it loud and clear for your coach, your family, your friends. Tell them your WHY! It'll keep you going and be PLENTY of motivation!
4. I've tried all those shakes, they don't work.
....yep, I am referring to what I hear about Shakeology. But there is an underlying excuse here. You aren't willing to try new things. You also aren't willing to accept factual information. For instance, Shakeology is not a protein shake. It has no artificial sweeteners. You body knows exactly how to digest all 16g of carbohydrates naturally, the way your body was designed to. There isn't poison.. err.. I mean artificial sweetener in Shakeology. But if you won't listen or do some research, you would never know these things!
5. I hurt my knee in the 4th grade and I'm still very protective of it so I can't exercise.
....Injuries are a very real and very serious occurrence. You have to honor your body and you have to have the appropriate medical clearance to work out actively. On the other hand, you cannot let fear of an old injury that is healed hold you back. Fear won't get you anywhere!
As you can see, there are LOTS of excuses you can come up with. I have heard many more than these five, but they are the excuses I most commonly hear. Yes, this post has lots of tough love. No, I don't mean any harm. I just want you to realize that you have to gain control over your mind in order to make you body work. It is absolutely the hardest part of your health journey. I know that and understand it will. It is easier for some than others. It is easier said than done, too. But it must be done. Once you conquer your excuses, you will begin to see a REAL transformation!
